Recently, Google released a pair of earphones called Google Pixel Buds, which integrate Google Assistant, real-time translation, and other functions, supporting real-time translation in 40 languages. Like other similar earphones on the market, Pixel Buds also come with a charging case that can provide 5 full charge cycles, and with the earphones themselves, the total battery life is 24 hours.
When conversing with people who speak different languages, users of this Google product only need to tap the right earbud to activate Google Assistant and give a voice command. The Assistant will then delegate the translation task to Google Translate, which plays the user's intended speech in the required language through the earphones.
However, Pixel Buds lean more towards being sports earphones: the two units are connected by a soft cable, support tap-to-play/pause, and swipe-to-adjust-volume touch controls. Because of the integrated touch module, Pixel Buds are not small in size. Considering that other wireless earphones easily slip out of users' ears, Pixel Buds fitting snugly and comfortably in the ears can be considered a major advantage. Additionally, besides helping with translation, Google Assistant can also make calls, provide navigation, and offer reminders based on user commands.
At this stage, Google's "AI + software + hardware" strategy is to embed Google Assistant into every product. According to predictions from Google insiders, the next great leap will occur at the intersection of AI, software, and hardware. AI + software + hardware will make Google Assistant ubiquitous.
Unlike other technologies, AI technology places significant and special importance on data. Data is a bridge to observe the world and a carrier of knowledge. Through systems plus data, and after learning and training, one can acquire corresponding capabilities; with good algorithms, software, and hardware, people can automatically extract knowledge from data.
The core of AI is intelligence—the ability to acquire knowledge, apply knowledge, and achieve goals. The special role of data in AI indicates that in the AI era, merely doing software or hardware is useless; it must be systems plus data, and through learning and training, one can achieve corresponding capabilities. Human history has always been a history of understanding the world, transforming the world, and pursuing knowledge. AI will greatly accelerate people's ability to understand and transform the world, and it will become a very significant milestone in human history.
At the same time, cloud services, which are based on the increase, use, and delivery models of internet-related services, generally refer to obtaining needed services through the network in an on-demand, easily scalable manner. These services can be IT and software, internet-related, or other services, meaning that computing power can also be circulated as a commodity over the internet. At any time and place, different IT devices can be interconnected to achieve data storage, computation, and other purposes. The front end of AI platforms is no longer just general-purpose computing devices; it will consist of sensors, silicon chips, and intelligent software. Every refrigerator, every air conditioner, every TV, every household, every car... all things in the world can become endpoints that can hear, speak, see, and connect with the intelligent cloud, increasingly understanding every sentence and recognizing every image.
AI is also an indispensable and core element for future home appliances. Whether it's the development of televisions or other products, AI is increasingly becoming an essential part of family members. Artificial intelligence will also provide new avenues and new thinking for business models in the home appliance field. If interconnectivity, multi-sensors, big data, and cloud computing are combined, it becomes possible to further analyze user behavior through algorithm models, build user profiles, and perform more precise information mining and recommendation. This can upgrade traditional home appliance sales into a long-term, intelligent service model. If this model can operate, subsequent business models can be connected one by one.
AI entering home appliance products is no longer a new topic. With internet technology and related market promotion, some products integrating AI technology have begun to enter public life and bring relatively fresh user experiences. However, at present, AI's ability to understand users' segmented needs is very limited, and available resources are not abundant. The integration of artificial intelligence with the home appliance industry undoubtedly brings people a brand-new experience and enjoyment. AI's autonomous learning is the ultimate goal. The AI "brain" becomes smarter in stages, evolving from machine learning to deep learning, and then to autonomous learning. If we want to reach the stage of autonomous learning, AI still has a long way to go.
